A KAMCHATKA BEAR

"Hi guys, as you requested here is one of the CoPilot that "kilt the barrr" on the Kamkatcha Peninsula (3hrs by helicopter from Petropavlosk) in Russia. There were 4 hunters on that trip from the Rifle, CO area. The others had high powered rifles, in the 338 or 300 Win Mag etc. Every one expected me to bring one too and not just some saddle riffle. I stood my ground and defended your honor. I said: "This rifle is proven to kill grizzlies in Alaska why wouldn't it kill a brown one in Russia". When I got to Russia the guides laughed and told me to throw it away and use one of the other hunter's guns. I showed them one of the cartridges and that didn't seem to matter. On the fifth day, one shot, at a range of about 80-100 yards I killed an 11ft Russian Brown bear. The legend of the CoPilot in Russia began. The bear didn't even take a full step before it keeled over and died. Now I was the one laughing. I was the only one to use one shot, the rest with their high power heavy sticks took 2 or more shots… The bear was shot on the 5th day of our 8 day hunt. You will notice our camp in the back ground. When we arrived the peaks of the tent were only visible. 50 degree weather melted the snow to where you see the camp in the pictures" - Steve Keinath
